Valerie Lea Foster

Valerie was born on December 17th, 1956 to James Horatio Sanborn and June Ann (Banks) Sanborn in Washington DC. Valerie peacefully passed away on August 20th, 2018, surrounded by family at the age of 61 from cancer.

Valerie grew up traveling with her family as a proud Air Force brat, enjoying seeing the world as a child. With fond memories from time spent in Anchorage AK, and Japan. She finished high school in York, ME. As a young adult she married. She had two sons, Roger W Foster II and John Thomas Foster with husband Roger Foster. Shortly after divorcing, she moved back to Maine in '84. In the fall of '92 Valerie and her sons moved to Wyoming, then Utah before settling in Zephyrhills Florida in 1995. In the summer of 2010 Valerie returned to Maine to be close to her family. Valerie loved to travel, playing bingo with her mother, spending time with her grand children, and visiting the LDS Temple in Boston. Valerie always had a smile on her face, even in her final weeks she was smiling. Valerie was a devout Christian as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

She is survived by her eldest son Roger, his wife Linda Foster, their 3 daughters Dakota Rose, Laklin Nakoma, and Alexis Sikwani of Indian Island. Her younger son John and his wife Tosha Foster of Orono. Her mother June Sanborn of Bangor, her siblings James H. Sanborn III and his wife Lynn Sanborn of Old Town. Susan Sanborn Hammond of Bangor, Craig Sanborn of Indian Island, David Sanborn of Washington D.C. Her nieces, nephews, and many loved family members.

She is predeceased by her father James H. Sanborn Jr.

Services in her memory will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bangor (639 Grandview Ave, Bangor, ME 04401) on September 3rd at 5pm. If desired, Floral arrangements can be sent to her eldest son at 7 Burnurwurbskek Ln, Indian Island ME 04468.
