OLD TOWN—Paul Raymond Baillargeon, 80, died January 28, 2021 at a Bangor health care facility. He was born April 23, 1940 in Old Town the loving son of the late Edgar L and Pauline F. (Richards) Baillargeon.
Paul is a special kind of person that if you were lucky enough to know him you would understand why. His gentle, kindhearted, compassionate approach to life was felt by his family, friends, and coworkers. His sensibility and reserved nature are what people were drawn to. Always willing to lend an ear, he provided advice, guidance, and opinions to others if asked, but was able to uniquely understand how to let the person make their own decisions.
Paul’s enjoyment of music was obvious as he listened to all sorts of genres along with a lifelong love to dance. One of his favorite bands was the Bee Gees….. for which he would sing along to every song that was played. He loved his time spent being a “snow-bird” and enjoying the sun in Florida during the winter months. He also enjoyed walks on the beach searching for sharks' teeth or sea glass when he returned to Maine in the summer.
Along with always being the voice of reason, Paul had a terrific sense of humor and an infectious smile. He was known for his quick wit and providing the perfect “one-liner” at exactly the right time. “Excuse me.... Do farts have lumps??” while shaking his pantleg…that particular one liner is forever etched in our minds.
Paul was the type of person that did not like to sit still and would putter around doing whatever type of work that needed to be done. He liked doing “skirt work”, as he called it, but preferred to be outside doing all types of yardwork. He could accomplish any task he set his mind to. He even built his own home on Pushaw Lake that he called his special place on earth.
Paul graduated from Old Town High School in 1957. He graduated from Husson College in 1959 with an Associate Degree in Business Administration. Upon graduating from Husson College, Paul set off to attend the McAllister School of Mortuary Science in New York. He then returned to Old Town to begin work for the family business known as Baillargeon Incorporated. He spent nine years as a funeral director and embalmer as well as working at the family retail store. Paul then was employed at Diamond International for almost 20 years as their accountant, assistant comptroller and personnel administrator. He finished out his career with Affiliated Laboratory, Inc as their business manager. Paul thoroughly enjoyed all his years with Affiliated Lab. He retired in 2004 to begin the next chapter of his life.
A special heartfelt thank you goes out to the staff at Westgate that were so kind and inclusive with Paul during his time spent with them.
