Jeremy M. McGlinchey

Jeremy M. McGlinchey, 43, of Portland, Maine, passed away in his sleep on September 10, 2023 in Old Town, Maine. He was visiting family “at the lake” while looking forward to moving to Nevada where his mother resides.

Jeremy was born on September 30, 1979 in Bangor, Maine, to Patrick M. and Edi (Edeltraut Fischer) McGlinchey. Jeremy’s childhood was spent in Lynn, Massachusetts and Portland, Maine. He attended Deering High School in Portland.

Jeremy was preceded in death by his grandfathers Sherwood S. McGlinchey (Papa), Josef Fischer (Opa), and John R. Lundgren (Jack), his stepfather, Weldon Sitton and his Aunt Dawn Marie. Jeremy also held a special place in his heart for his dog “Babs,” a beloved and faithful companion of many years until her passing.

He is survived by his mother Edi Sitton, father Patrick McGlinchey and stepmother Karin Lundgren, his brothers Justin McGlinchey (Megan), Nick McGlinchey (Mindy) and Brandon Crockett, his grandmothers Rita McGlinchey (Mimi), Elfriede Fischer (Oma), and Carol Lundgren (Missy), his Uncle Mike and Aunt Lori, Aunt Val and Uncle Jerry, Aunt Cindy and Uncle Larry, Aunt Christine (Aunt Teen), and Aunt Sabine, many cousins and other extended family members, his childhood and lifelong best friend Amos Madruga, great friend and neighbor Nick Vacchiano, and other friends who meant the world to Jeremy over the years.

Jeremy loved music ever since he was young, and he played drums in the Lynn Middle School band. He was an avid computer gamer and a movie buff. Over the years Jeremy acquired many carpentry and building skills, although he spent most of his adult life working in the restaurant industry, primarily as a butcher for years at Pat’s Meat Market in Portland, where he enjoyed visiting with “the regulars,” as he called his customers. Most recently, he worked as a line cook at the Bayou Kitchen in Portland.

Jeremy had the memorable adventure of visiting his mother’s family in Germany when he was young. He had a special bond with “Opa,” his grandfather: although Jeremy didn’t know any German and Opa didn’t know any English, they formed an instant connection and had no trouble communicating with each other from the moment they met. Jeremy also especially loved spending time with his paternal grandparents in Maine “at the lake.” He wasn’t fond of crowds or being in the spotlight, but he loved his family and laughing with his cousins when they would get together. As they all grew up and began to have kids of their own, he enjoyed watching the energy and antics of the youngest generation of his family.

A graveside service will take place on Friday, October 6 at 1 p.m. at the Milford Cemetery, Bradley Road (Rte.178), Milford, Maine with a reception to follow at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main Street, Old Town, Maine. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Jeremy’s memory may be made to a local animal rescue or homeless shelter, causes that Jeremy cared about.
