Bangor – James H. Martin, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 3, 2024, at a Bangor hospital. James was born in Old Town on August 13, 1939, the son of Ralph “Pepper” and Helen (Mann) Martin.
James was a graduate of Old Town High School, class of 1958. Following high school, he found his niche as a mason, working on numerous buildings in the greater Bangor area over the years.
James’ life wasn’t defined by his work, but it was his hobbies. He enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, guiding fisherman on the Penobscot and going to camp. In 2016, he was awarded a lifetime outdoor achievement award, which in James fashion, he was humbled by. In addition to his hobbies he enjoyed his time being a part of the Veazie Salmon Club and enjoyed volunteering his time to Maine Youth Fish and Game Association.
He is survived by Judy “Rae” Martin of 45 years; his sons, Gary Martin and wife, Amanda and James “Mike” Martin and his wife, Maryeva; daughter, Rhonda Kelley and her husband Mike; his grandchildren, Britney Kelley, Tyler Kelley, Dillon Coleman, Kayla Coleman, Spencer Martin, Asher Martin and Sawyer Martin; great grandchildren, Alex and Zev Nash; sisters, Judy Highbarger and her husband Ron and Kathy Martinelli and husband, Luigi; his brother, Toby Martin and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on January 12, 2023, from 11AM-1PM, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, ME. A Celebration of life will take place at 1PM at Birmingham’s, with a reception to immediately follow at the funeral home.
