Robert M. Staib, 85, of Old Saybrook, beloved husband of Betty Coburn Staib, passed away on Monday October 23, 2017 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in Hartford, CT on March 9, 1932, he was the son of the late Harry and Sarah McDermott Staib.
Bob retired in 1997 from Saybrook Oil as a service technician after thirty years. He was an avid gardener and built beautiful bird houses, which he sold to admirers that walked by his home. Bob was affectionately known as the “Bird Man”. He loved people, always had a smile and had a true love for life.
Besides his wife Betty of 65 years, he is survived by three children. Robert D. Staib of Middletown, Gail Rubin and her husband Lawrence of Clinton and Harry Staib and his wife Laura of Westbrook. Six grandchildren; Mark, Christeen, Robert, David, Stephanie and Matthew. Seven great grandchildren and his only surviving sibling Charles Staib of VT.
Family and friends may call on Thursday October 26th from 4-7 pm at the Swan Funeral Home 1224 Boston Post Rd Old Saybrook CT. A Mass of Christaian Burial will be celebrated on Friday October 27th at 10 am in St John Church 161 Main St. Old Saybrook. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Westbrook. Arrangements under the direction of Swan Funeral Home, Old Saybrook, CT.
