Mrs. Spencer was born in Wilson County, Tennessee on June 28, 1933 to parents, Harris Edmund and Mildred Louise (Gregory) Burton. She will be remembered as a loving wife, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was especially attentive to her children, never missing any of their sporting events. She had a passion for cooking and worked as a cook for the Metro Nashville School system making even cafeteria food enjoyable. Among her favorite activities was singing the old gospel hymns. Delores loved Jesus with all her heart and was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church for over fifty years.
Mrs. Spencer is preceded in death by her father, Harris Edmund Burton; her mother, Mildred Louise (Gregory) Burton; mother-in-law, Marie Spencer; and her loving husband, William Howard Spencer; brothers-in-law Jim Mayes and Tommy Craighead.
Mrs. Spencer is survived by her sons, Harold A. "Tony" (Kimberly) Spencer, and Howard G. "Greg" (Cindy) Spencer; grandchildren Rayce Austin Spencer (Alexis Bowers), Howard G. Spencer, Steve Foster Jr.; great granddaughter Lakelyn Kori Spencer; brother Durell (Wilda) Burton; sisters Ann Craighead, Lillian Mayes; brother-in-law Ed (Joyce) Spencer; nieces Lori (Travis) Loveday, Amy (Kelly) McEvoy, Karen (Jeff) Johnson; and nephews Darell (Sylvia) Mayes, Wayne Mayes, Kevin Mayes, Todd (Heather) Craighead, Brian (Sarah) Craighead, Jim Spencer, and Edie (Matt) Spencer Joy.
Mrs. Spencer also leaves behind many friends. A few very special friends are Allison Forkum, Hellen Neusome, Rhonda Riley (Texas), Iva (hairdresser), Linda Tarr, and Kathleen Clark.
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hermitage Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 AM in the Tulip Grove Room at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Vocca, officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Faith at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
