Dr. Dayton Donald Moser was born in Old Hickory, Tennessee. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He attended elementary school in Old Hickory and graduated from Dupont High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Tennessee Technological University, a Master’s Degree plus thirty hours, and a Doctor of Education degree from Middle Tennessee State University.
Dr. Moser was a head basketball and girls’ softball coach at his Alma Maters, Dupont High School, and Dupont Junior High School, and also coached at Maplewood, Mt. Juliet, Joelton, Portland, and Watertown High Schools.
He was inducted into Metro Nashville Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame; he was also TACA Coach of the year in 1987 and won the Nashville Black Coaches Association Legends Award. Don retired from McGavock High School as an Assistant Principal and Athletic Director.
He enjoyed playing golf with his friends and watching Westerns on TV as well as spending time with his family.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Dayton and Pauline Moser, and brother, Ron Moser. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Johnson Moser, daughter, Melissa Ann White (Russ), grandsons, David Dayton Layhew and Griffin Johnson Layhew, and nephew, Kirk Moser (Vickie).
Visitation at Hermitage Funeral Home on Monday, June 28, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m., Funeral will begin at 2:00pm.
Bro. Larry Dearth will officiate. Entombment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
