Nick Lee King

Nick L King, 48, passed away November 18, 2018. Nick was born November 6, 1970, always living in Olathe, Kansas, graduated from Olathe North HS in 1989, where he got his nickname “Slick Nick”. He worked at Sutherland Lumber Company for years, he quit to go back to college and worked part time at Weigel Construction. On July 12, 1995 Nick fell 25 feet to a concrete slab where he was declared dead. They gave us papers to donate his organs, as a family we said, “NO”. He lost his vision in the accident and NICK didn’t die as Jesus had other plans for Nick. Our good and merciful Lord Jesus Christ gave Nick another 23 years with us. With his blindness Nick bowled on bowling teams, played on dart league and worked at Outback Steakhouse. He was determined not to let his disability stop him, he even went snowboarding. Nick was also past Vice President of Persons with Disability Advisory Board.

Nick was a true OAKLAND RAIDER’S Fan – He ate and breathed the Raiders. He was given 5 game tickets as a gift from Jeff Hosteller, Raiders quarterback, in 1995. But nothing took 1st place of his God.

Nick is preceded in death by his father, David L. King, His grandparents Dorothy and Julian King, Frank Miller and his uncle Ernie Miller.

Survivors include his mother: Lois D. (Miller) King, 2 brothers: Troy Allen King and Shawn David King and wife Ashley King all of Olathe, Kansas, 3 nieces and nephews: Tyler Ryan King and wife Olivia King, Kaitlyn King & Ashley King (daughters of Shawn King): great – nephew, Andrew Dylan King; his Grandmother, Eleanor McKee & Several Uncles and Aunts, and the list goes on with cousins.

Nick was a joy and brought hope and inspiration to anyone he met, He was always giving hope and praying for all who needed it. But most of all he loved His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for that reason we know He now walks the streets of GOLD and he can "SEE ALL", he does not have to use his white cane anymore and no longer walks on Water as he joked that only he and Jesus could walk on water (Nick lived on Water Street). I thank the Lord for the extra 23 years with, Nick. He never complained about his blindness. He would say that the day he fell was the best day of his life because it caused him to turn his life over to the Lord and he became a new creation in Jesus Christ.

Nick was an organ donor and would be honored that through his final gift he was able to help 40 people in need.

His visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 with funeral services at 7:00 PM, Monday, November , 26 at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 E Loula St., Olathe, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 ST Jude Place. Memphis, TN 38105, to help the children in need, as it was one of Nick’s passions.
