Mary Ellen Howard, 91, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Bickford Assisted Living in Overland Park, Kansas. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone she met.
Mary Ellen was born on September 29, 1928 in Bradley, Kansas to William E. and Margaret C. (McLean) Hudson. She was the youngest of five children, and she attended schools in Pittsburg, Kansas. In 1958 she married, Richard Howard in California where she remained until 1966. Together they raised their only son, Mark who was born in 1960.
In 1966 Mary Ellen and her son Mark moved to the Olathe - Lenexa area where she remained local until her death. She worked as a civil servant for the government for forty five years. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Olathe, Kansas. She will be sadly missed.
Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, William and Margret Hudson along with her four siblings, Jerome Hudson, Bill (Dougan) Hudson, Margaret Estes and Betty Cumley. She is survived by her loving son, Mark Howard of Olathe, Kansas. Left behind to cherish her memory are her two grandsons, Josh Cumley and Michael Eastland and his wife Julie, three great grandchildren, Margo Eastland, Adam Eastland and Jacob Eastland. Mary Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family. But most importantly the times she spent with her grandchildren were her most favorite.
A Catholic Memorial Mass will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at the St. Paul Catholic Church 21650 West 115th Terrace Olathe, Kansas. A private family Inurnment will take place at a later date in St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery in Scammon, Kansas.
