Martin was born on September 18, 1941, in Waverly, Kansas, to Helen Dobbs and Ralph Pitts. He and his four siblings – Cliff Pitts, Pat Gordon, Sandy Riekhof, Donna Largent – remember a childhood of love, laughter, and a little mischief.
After graduating from Olathe High School, Martin put himself through college at the University of Kansas. He received a bachelor’s in accounting, earned a CPA, and worked as a successful Tax Partner with KPMG for over 33 years and across three states – Kansas, Florida, Texas.
Martin was married to Edna Voigts, his high school sweetheart, for 58 years. They had three children and nine grandchildren: Cheryl Pitts Zobal, husband Dan and children Alec, Emma, and Andrew; Cecily Pitts Miller, husband Loren and children Jordan and Hunter; Eric Pitts, wife Bricey, and children Timothy, Matthew, Nathan, and Riley. Martin was a true family man who unconditionally loved and prioritized his immediate and extended family.
Martin was outgoing, optimistic, and “a bit” outspoken. He had an infectious laugh, sense of humor, and a zeal for life that kept him from sitting still. He enjoyed racquetball, boating, and golf (his latest love). He regularly volunteered his time and talents through boards and community organizations.
Most importantly, Martin’s life was defined by his unwavering faith and love for Jesus, which overflowed to his compassion for others. In support of his strong beliefs, he was a leader in Bible Study Fellowship, a volunteer in Prison Ministries, and an active member in Denton Bible Church. His favorite bible verses are from Ecclesiastes 3: There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…
In honor of Martin’s life, there will be a ceremony on July 8 at 10 am at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe, Kansas. Additionally, a memorial service is planned for late July at Denton Bible Church in Denton, Texas.
Memorial donations can be made to Bible Study Fellowship, or a charity of your choice.
