My dad’s sudden passing, February 17, 2022, hit us like the snowstorm that paralyzed KC that day.   As we have learned, through the outpouring of support over the past couple of weeks, we are not alone in our grief.  It has been heartwarming to hear the stories about the impact Dad made on the lives of others .  His humble nature, generous spirit and witty sense of humor were treasured by family, friends, and his work family.
We wish we could have the chance to savor more of those ordinary moments—an opportunity to share another cup of coffee, a phone call, a laugh; however, we know that no amount of time would be enough.  Instead, we must find comfort in our memories, as we miss Dad’s kind and loving presence.

Dearest Ed  - Today is warm and sunny, I’m sure you would think it a fine day to head to work at the railroad. But there will be no work today nor tomorrow for you left us suddenly on Feb 17. Many tears have fallen but today is a time to celebrate and share memories of how you filled our hearts with joy. 
You were the oldest sibling; our hub, our compass – the one who offered guidance and comfort and were so loving and kind. We grew up in Northeast Kansas City and you and brother Jim graduated from Assumption Grade School followed by Rockhurst High School. I was the next sibling and always thought of myself as the “apple of your eye”.  As I have come to learn, you had the gift to make everyone feel special. I was followed by little sister Cookie and brother Bill was the baby. 
We were a curious, studios bunch with little desks for homework and lots of reading. Work came easily and often to you even as a child – altar boy, you mowed lawns, paper boy, and then worked the docks at the Kansas City Star.
The late 1960’s is when you left home for Maryville to attend Northwest Missouri State College. You were in Maryville for a short time when the love of Julie Ann Donegan brought you back to KC. This was a match made in heaven, a true romance, as I saw you grow into a loving husband, father, and the fabulous grandfather, Poppa Choo Choo.
Work at the railroad completed your life. We knew the work was very hard on your body but the friendships, kindness, and affection of everyone at the railroad warmed your heart. Our family is truly grateful to your co-workers for being by your side all these years. 
Ed, you had a wide circle of friends.  You were generous with your support and always made an effort to reach out. I would love to talk with you once more.
As this note comes to an end, a wish for safe travels as it is time for you to get aboard and ride that glory train.

RIP Big Ed. We know you did not have a plan to leave us all right now but God makes our plan for Life and Eternity. You lead a good life and loved Julie and your children and grandchildren. You spread joy and love to so many. You will be dearly missed by so many. Till we meet again Love Always Frank And Kathy ❤️😇🌻🙏🏻

Ed Egan is my brother-in-law.  He loved my  sister with all his heart and thought that she was the most beautiful woman ever.  He also loved his children and grandchildren and always wanted only the best for all of them.  He was a hard worker who loved working at the railroad with his many coworkers. He considered each and every one of them to be among his best friends.  I will miss his wry wit and big personality.  Our family gatherings will not be the same without him. 


May the peace of the Lord be with the Egan family at this difficult time.  RIP Ed.

We were fortunate to live down the street from the Egans. I have many fond memories of playing with all of the Egans - and Julie and Ed were always the nicest. Sending you much love and hugs. 

I had the pleasure of working with 
Mr. Edward Michael Egan, for many years. 
I called him Easy Eddie.
He was one of the nicest and easiest people to be around, that I have ever met.
He was always the same.
He had a quick smile, a little chuckle and a twinkle in his eye. 
I must admit I did enjoy giving him a little bit of a hard time. Always given with love and affection and accepted, as evidenced by, the smile, chuckle and twinkle. 

My sincere condolences to his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends.
May you take comfort in his memory and in knowing what a genuine nice person he was. 
May he rest in peace.

If not for Ed I may never have found the joy of reading.  I was 8.  And he was 9. 
Once when I was a teen Ed drove me to a ball game as a favor. No one else would take me and I wanted to go badly. My fiance was playing and I didn't want to miss the game. So Ed stepped in. Of such little memories friendships are born. Rest in Peace Ed. Until we meet again. Love Cousin Sally

Thanks Big Ed, just a dumb kid growing up in the neighborhood, you took me in.  Growing up in a single parent household, I never experienced the life of true, multi-family life.  I would visit your daughter and never knew what to expect, and I appreciate that….. on my toes!  I spent many hours talking with you over many different things and never once did you talk down to me as a kid growing up….thank you! I’ve said it many times along with many others, Big Ed when are you going to retire!!! We know now, never that’s awesome, you did what you loved you provided for others and while you never knew this, you were a father figure to me, in many respects one being work ethic.    I personally have never worked the hours you have, you were diehard for the company, and now grown up it’s a value that can’t be matched. 
Thanks for all the conversations, all the time I’ve spent with your family, you have forever made and impact on my life personally and the lives of many.

ED WAS KNOWN AROUND WORK AS FAST EDDIE WHICH FIT HIM TO THE TEE.  I WORKED WITH HIM WHEN I FIRST STARTED OUT AT BNSF MURRAY YARD THEN LATER ON OVER AT ARGENTINE.  HE WAS QUITE THE ENGINEER WHO KNEW  ALL THE RIGHT MOVES TO MAKE AND HOW TO MAKE THEM.  I ALSO USE TO SEE ED AT HY VEE OR QUIK TRIP IN OLATHE.   I ALWAYS THOUGHT HE WOULD RETIRE BEFORE I WOULD BUT I PULLED THE PLUG LAST OCTOBER.  HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM AND BY THOSE WHO NEVER MET HIM.
