She was the daughter of Fred J Schmidt Sr and Marie Cahill Schmidt. She was born August 4th, 1930 and shared her birthdate with Anita, her niece and Sara, her great niece; she enjoyed numerous celebrations with them.
After completing her education, she went to work in the Mortgage Loan Division of Travelers, retiring after 47 years. She later worked for American Greetings for 17 years, retiring in 2009.
She volunteered every Wednesday at St Joseph Medical Center for 29 years and was secretary of the Travelers semi-annual reunion luncheon.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Being a believer in honoring special occasions, she sent over 100 cards annually to family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mary Kegin and Jacqueline Kierl, brother Fred J Schmidt, Jr, brothers-in-law Patrick Kegin Sr and Francis Jerome Kierl Sr., and sister-in-law Alice Schmidt.
She was also preceded in death by great-nephew Kelley Wilson and niece Kathy Kegin Currie.
She is survived by fifteen nieces and nephews, twenty-two great nieces and nephews, and 9 great-great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, she requests that her survivors direct any charitable contributions to the Kelley Wilson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Overland Park on Friday, December 13th at 10am after a rosary at 9:30am. A lunch will be held immediately after the services at Holy Spirit. To celebrate Dorothy’s love of our local sports teams, we invite attendees to wear Chiefs or Royals apparel.
