Dorothy Mae Bailey, 80, of Olathe, KS, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to everyone she met. Family and friends were her passion and delight.
Dorothy was born on May 18, 1935, in Kincaid, Kansas, to Nelson Albert and Henrietta Irene (Eisnman) Mott. She met the love of her life in the fall of 1951 at a USO dance in Olathe. Dorothy and Virgil Wayne Bailey were married on July 18, 1952, in Paola, Kansas. Dorothy immediately started on her new role as mother to Wayne Jr., Joleen, Randy Jay, and Sherri Lynn. She worked in food production for the Olathe School District. Sharing her culinary and quilting skills with family and friends was her way of showing love. For those who were blessed to receive one of her quilts, treasure it and know it was made with pure love. The next time you sit down to watch a sporting event, remember to cheer on the Royals, Chiefs, and KU. She will be watching alongside you. If you had a chance to receive a piece of her carrot cake, remember her when you have your next piece; and yes, complain it isn’t as good as Dorothy’s.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Nelson Albert and Henrietta Irene Mott, her sister Beth Roberts and her brother George Mott. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Virgil Wayne Bailey and their children, Virgil Wayne Bailey, Jr. and his wife Lisa, Joleen McClintock and her husband Billy, Randy Jay Bailey and Sherri Lynn Grant and her husband Clay. Left behind to cherish her memory are her seven grandchildren: Brian Bailey, Kelly Bishop (Shane), Kimberly Ramirez (Tommy), Ashley Cherry (Zach), Lacey Bailey, Baille Besanceney and Josh Besanceney. She will be sadly missed by her five great grandchildren: Gracie Bishop, William Bishop, Jesse Ramirez, Jaxon Ramirez, and Benjamin Cherry along with her brother Joe Mott of Harrison, Arkansas.
