Donald Ray Honaker

Donald was the second child born to Kenneth and Opal Honaker in Wilson County, Kansas on December 29, 1931. Donald grew up on a farm in Southeastern Kansas and graduated from Elsmore High School in 1949. Donald joined the Air Force at age 17. It was in the Air Force that Donald found his passion for working in the aeronautical industry.

In 1954 Donald met Nancy Porter, the love of his life. They married on June 27, 1956 in Miami OK and raised 3 daughters. Donald and Nancy enjoyed square dancing, fishing, and traveling. After retiring from TWA as an Inspector in 1994, Donald and Nancy enjoyed spending their winters in Texas. Donald also had a passion for gardening. Every year he had a garden and enjoyed sharing his fresh grown vegetables with his neighbors and friends.

Donald is survived by 3 daughters, Pamela Jones (Larry), Lorie Honaker, and Amy Bartlow (Steve). Other family members include 6 grandchildren Matthew Bartlow, Mollie Terry, Kaitlyn Schnackenberg, Paxton Bartlow, Megan Shupe and Elaina Bartlow and 5 great grandchildren, a sister, Karen Jackson, and brothers, Loren and Merle Honaker. Donald is also survived by his companion, Ethel Zimmerman, with whom he took many happy trips together after Nancy’s passing in 2012. Donald was preceded in death by his wife Nancy of 56 years, three sisters, Jane Massey, who passed 8 days after Donald’s passing, Ines Walker and Linda Seuferling.

Funeral services will be on Saturday February 26, 2022 at 11 am and visitation at 10 am at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 E. Loula St., Olathe, KS 66061. Inurnment will be at 1:30 PM at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens located at 13901 South Black Bob Road, Olathe, KS. 66062.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the National Kidney Foundation, Kansas Honor Flight or Kansas City Hospice. The family recommends COVID vaccine and masking at the service.
