Woody Lee Wheeler

Woody was born August 17, 1934 in Coweta, Oklahoma, to Woodrow Denton and Lucy Lee “Creech” Denton.

On October 2nd, 1950 she married her sweetheart, Ora Owen Wheeler and they were married 69 years before Owen’s passing. Woody was employed by JCPenney’s for a time, as well as worked at the Ellicott School as a cook and eventually head cook for many years. Besides being a homemaker, she enjoyed donating her time at St. Francis hospital as a pink lady at the information desk. She was given an award for her twenty plus years of service. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as often as possible and loved traveling, especially through the mountains of Colorado. She enjoyed listening to gospel and country music and was an avid watcher of old westerns.

Woody is survived by her devoted children, J.R. Wheeler, (Melanie), of Altus, Ok., Cheryl Burkett, (Arnie) of Guthrie, OK., Carol Burnside of Peyton, CO.; grandchildren Casey Burkett of Guthrie, OK., Derek Burnside of Peyton, CO., Dallas Wheeler (Deanna) of Moore, OK., Heather Thrower (Michael) of Edmond, Ok., Chad Burnside (Kristen) of Calhan, CO., Justin Wheeler (Sarah) of Blair, OK., Ashley Wheeler of OKC, Ok., Cody Wheeler (Kelsey) of Edmond, OK.; great-grandchildren Haylee Burkett, Preston Burnside, Katelyn Meyer, Jaydan Chaichan, Logan Burkett, Brock Burnside, Brody Burnside, Raegan Burnside, Justice Wheeler, Bron Burnside, Jagger Wheeler, Hannah Thrower.

She is also survived by her brother Lewis Denton (Bobbie) of Coweta, OK., and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ora Owen Wheeler, her father Woodrow Denton, her mother Lucy Lee Creech, sibling Ivan Denton, and son-in-law Stephen James Burnside.

A visitation will be held for Woody on Thursday, July 1st, 2021 from 6:00 - 8:00pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home, located at 13313 N. Kelley Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73131.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, July 2nd, 2021 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
