It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Joseph Ellis, who departed this world on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Born on September 16, 1929, in Burke, SD, Tom was the beloved son of Charley Ellis and Helen (Shaheen) Ellis. He grew up in a close-knit family alongside his two brothers, Fred and Leonard, and his three sisters, Dorothy, Mae, and Margaret.
Tom dedicated 26 years of his life to the United States Air Force, achieving the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Throughout his military career, he received numerous accolades and commendations for his exemplary service, setting a standard of excellence for his colleagues.
Tom was not only a devoted service member but also a loving husband to Lola Ellis for 33 years. Their union was a source of strength and support, creating a foundation for a fulfilling life together.
Tom has three daughters from a previous marriage: Debbie McDermitt of Haskell, OK, Karen Petrie with husband Bill from Newcastle, OK, and Cindy Smith of Bixby, OK. Tom cherished his role as a father, and the love he invested in his daughters was evident in the strong and caring individuals they became.
With Tom’s marriage to Lola, his family expanded to include Lola's children. Tom embraced and cherished Lola's family as his own. His warm and welcoming spirit extended to Lola's two daughters, Cindy Carter of Oklahoma City and Becky with husband Kelly McKim of Oklahoma City, and her two sons, Jim with wife Stacy Gentry of California and Ron with wife Gloria Gentry of Montana. He formed close bonds with each of them, creating a family filled with love and connection.
Tom leaves behind the legacy of numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each touched by his quiet pride and wisdom. Despite his reserved nature, he forged unique connections with each family member, finding joy in their individual personalities and achievements.
As we bid farewell to him, we remember a man whose love knew no bounds, a patriot who served with distinction, and a cherished presence in the lives of those fortunate enough to call him friend or family. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
