Russell Joe Lathrop of Oklahoma City rejoined his Father-in-Heaven 9/29/2018, after living an “unsurpassable” life. Born 9/9/1926 to Russell Alvin and Ernestine Purvine Lathrop in Ardmore, OK. Russell had a myriad of jobs during his youth. His favorite was working with Ben Scott and Heasty Flying Service where his lifelong love of aviation blossomed. He met his “unforgettable” love, Lois Jean Balch, the spring of 1950, married her Feb. 4, 1951, and spent the rest of his life adoring her.
Russell served with US Navy aircraft maintenance during WWII and visited many Pacific islands and the Panama Canal. He became a private pilot and continued his aviation career as a civilian supporting the USAF eventually becoming a Logistics Officer. Russell completed many special assignments including at The Pentagon, on the Speckled Trout, and TAFB representative to Special Operations Forces. His time at Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, SD. created treasured memories and friends for the family. Russell retired in 1988 from TAFB KC-135 Division after 42 years of service. Russ and Lois were longtime members of Quail Springs Baptist Church. He was known for his “picturesque” storytelling, his love of the outdoors and fishing, and most importantly, his immense love for his family.
Russell leaves behind one brother, Bob (Barbara) Lathrop, Allen, TX.; daughter Jan (Walter) Smith, Glen Rose, TX.; son, Russ Jr. (DeAnn) Lathrop, Yukon, OK.; 4 grandchildren, Jason Csizmadia, Mustang, Ok, Jamie Csizmadia, Iquitos, Peru; Cody (Tessa) Lathrop, Elizabethtown, KY.; Kelsey Lathrop, Dayton, OH; 4 great grandchildren and a 5th to be born Oct. 8th; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
