Bob graduated from Hutchinson High in 1947 and attended Hutchinson Junior College and Pittsburgh State College, where he played basketball before leaving school to play minor league baseball.
He entered the U.S. Navy at the beginning of the Korean War in 1950. In 1953, while stationed at Moffett Field in California, Bob married Marta Ann Hicks.
After honorable discharge from the Navy in 1954, Bob and Marta returned to Hutchinson to raise their family. By the end of 1962 they had four boys and two girls, and relocated to Oklahoma City in 1967.
Bob had a decades-long career in oil field sales, first with Reed Drilling Bit Company until he became Vice President of Sales for Capitol Well Service in the early 1970s, where he worked until he retired in 1999.
Bob was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Twin Hills Golf & Country Club and River Oaks Golf Club. He was a talented athlete and lifelong sports fan. He set up a batting cage in the family backyard, and attended local high school sporting events long after his children were out of school.
Once you met Bob, you never forgot him. He was a true salesman; you knew where you stood with him and he always spoke what was on his mind. Even his neighbors over the last 30 years dubbed him “The Mayor” of the neighborhood as he sat in a chair in his garage, visited with people walking by and knew everything that was going on.
Bob was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Patricia Ryan, Joan Metzler, Mary Margaret Banz and Janet Ryan; and brother, George Ryan; and daughter, Sherry. He is survived by his wife and children, Randy (Kim); Pat (Debbie); Marty; Mike; and Kelly, as well as five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held at The Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist in Edmond on Monday, July 17 at 10:30 a.m.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MemorialParkOKC.com for the Ryan family.
