Owen R Merriman, 95, of Spencer, OK went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 14, 2019. He was born October 16, 1923 in Pleasanton, Kansas to Dirse Hazel and Dollie Mae (Stokes) Merriman. Owen married the love of his life, Harvey Ann Merriman, June 14, 1952 and the two spent 62 wonderful years together. He was a longtime active member of Cornerstone Church in Midwest City for as long as his health allowed. Owen was a WWII Veteran, member of Company B 558th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion. He served in China-Burma-India, as well as four Tours to Vietnam as civilian Crash & Battle Crew Chief for the B52 Bomber, repairing jets that had been shot in battle. He was among the Greatest Generation of US Veterans. In October of 2017, Owen joined the Honor Flight to Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. and visited the WWII Memorial and others. He experienced the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and was tremendously honored to be selected to place the Wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He retired from Tinker Air Force Base at age 65. Always one to stay active, he was later employed at Mid-Del Schools and Dillards for 20 years; retiring for a second time at the age of 88. He loved working on old cars, spending time with family, and enjoyed being around people. He was known as a humble and honorable man who lived his faith, generous and kind to all. Owen was the most loving, giving man you’d ever meet. He loved life to the fullest. He loved deeply and was deeply loved. Owen is survived by his daughter Coley and husband Ralph; son Kevin and wife Connie; son Steve and wife Cindy; grandchildren, Deidre and husband Vince, Samiha and husband Rob, Bayli, Michael, Ben, JR, Stevie and wife Tara, Robbie and wife Melanie, Candace and husband JT, Kent and wife Bobbye, Kurt, Monica and Josh; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and other family members. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Harvey Ann; parents Dirse and Dollie; siblings Russel, Ola May, Dorothy, Hazel, Wanda and Bob (leaving Owen as the last Merriman patriarch of their generation); daughter Kari; and grandson Bud. Memorial Service with Military Veteran Honors will be held 11:00 am, Friday, June 14, 2019 at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N Midwest Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73141.
