Norma Jean Thomas

Norma Jean Thomas, 81 year-old resident of Midwest City, OK, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 12, 2014 at her home. Born September 3, 1933 she was the daughter of Ray Gill and Callie Ruth (Fletcher) Gill. Growing up she was ahead of her time as an athlete lettering in Softball, Volleyball, and Golf in High School. She was the pitcher on the church softball team and played with Rhonda and Carolyn for many years. She was a member of the Honda Gold Wing Club and rode motorcycles all over the United States with her husband Loren (Dude). Norma was both a member and very active in Dickson Baptist Church, singing in the Choir, which she loved, teaching Sunday School to High School and Junior High Girls; and was always available to share her heart of service to God at Church. Norma was a member of the Singing Churchwomen of Oklahoma which was a great joy to her. She always attended her kids and grandkid’s events over the years. Norma loved camping and taught her kids how to waterski. She was a giving person often letting people stay in her home until their life returned to a more normal state. Most of all Norma loved to spend time with her grandchildren, Morgan, Garrett, Hannah and Taylor who she adored and was a positive influence on their lives. Norma was a secretary working as the Principal’s assistant at Star Spencer High School and then at Classen School for Advanced Studies, where she retired. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Ruth Gill; her husband Loren Thomas; 1 son, Lonnie Thomas; 1 brother, Emile Gill; and 1 sister, Delores Wilder. Survivors include 2 daughters, Rhonda Boles of Edmond, OK; and Carolyn and her husband Randy Swift of Claremore, OK; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

We’d like to thank mom’s caregiver, Lisa Scott for her service over the past year and also Frontier Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Dickson Baptist Church with burial following at Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
