Mary Lee (Neff) Phelps was born July 22, 1941, to Charlie and M. Florene Neff in Poteau, Leflore County, Oklahoma. She later moved to the Midwest City area where she was a homemaker raising her six children.
Growing up Mary developed a life-long love of horses and of Elvis Presley and his music.
Mary's favorite thing was being “Grandma Mary” to 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She loved taking them on adventures, whether it was conquering the latest video game, or a hunt to complete a set of happy meal toys. She had a special touch with babies, seemingly always knowing the trick to calm them down or finally getting them to sleep.
Mary is survived by her brother, Jim(Debbie) Neff of Poteau; children, Mike (Sarah) Begley, Brenda (Jack)Shanks, Sheryl (James) Mortimer, Laura Begley, Rebecca Whitson; and adopted grandson, Ryan Begley. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; son, Steve Begley; and her husband, Donald Phelps.
