Mary Louise Voss was born on a dairy farm, southeast of Britton, OK on January 8, 1920 to Carmen and Nellie Voss. Raised during the Great Depression, she early learned the value of work, thrift and patience.
She graduated from Britton High School and from what is now UCO with Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education. Her 33 year career in education spanned 4 school systems; Oakdale, Nicoma Park, Oklahoma City, and Millwood, where she served in various positions; Teacher, Counselor, Principal, Psychometrist; Director of Projects, and Consultant. She was honored for her contribution toward excellence in Education.
Her 47 year marriage to Byron Butts was blessed with the arrival of their 3 children; James, Jennifer, and Marian. Her strong Christian faith was her anchor. As a charter member of Millwood Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School classes for over 50 years. Her priorities were Faith, Family, and Friends.
In 2000, Mary married Lewis Clough. It was a sunset marriage that brought sweet companionship.
She is preceded in death by two husbands, her parents, six siblings, and 3 stepsons.
She is survived by her children; James Butts and wife, Lisa, of Owasso; Jennifer Yarbrough and husband, Darrell; and Marian Bates and husband, Gary, of Edmond; one stepson, James Clough; eight grandchildren; Kenneth and Jason Yarbrough, Emily Marsh, Natalie Rychecky, Evan Inman, and their spouses, Stephanie Ellis, Josh and Hannah Butts; and nine great-grandchildren; Cooper, Claire, Daivee, Mason, Caleb, Lena, Emmie, Eveline, and Alyse; 3 nieces and 2 nephews, Martha Chritchfield, Dr. Barbara Voss-Alvarez, Becky Butts Burris, Curtis Voss, and Joe Voss, and families.
