Marcella Ann Meador, born February 16, 1955 to Marvin and Lois Backhaus of Guthrie, Oklahoma. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, September 17, 2014 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Her “Darlin” Alonzo Franklin Meador, son Derek S. Meador and daughter Cheree Meador survive her. Her siblings, Carol De La Pena of Yukon, Oklahoma, Janet Drumright of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Paul Backhaus of Yukon, Oklahoma and Linda Frohock of Del City, Oklahoma, as well as 8 grandchildren and 9 nieces and nephews also survive her.
Marcella was born and raised in Guthrie, Oklahoma, where she spent most of her childhood working on the family farm. One of her favorite childhood memories is sledding in the pasture with her father. She graduated from Guthrie High School in 1972 as the valedictorian of her class. She went on to the University of Oklahoma where she received her degree in electrical engineering in 1982. She loved her sooners! She began her career at Tinker Air Force Base in 1972 as a secretary and went on to continue her career as an Electrical Engineer with the FAA in 1990 and retired in 2010, for a total of 38 years of civil service.
Marcella’s most cherished moment in her life was when she met her Darlin, Frank. They married in 1980 and shared 34 amazing years together. They did everything together from traveling the world to the mundane task of yard work; very rarely did you ever see them apart from one another. They were truly head over heels in love with each other. Marci inherited two children Derek and Cheree when she married Frank, she was an amazing mother to them, and she loved them as her own. She loved her grandchildren more than life itself as well as her nieces and nephews. She was an incredible role model and inspiration to them all.
She loved life, and she lived it big! She gave the best hugs, had the best laugh and the most beautiful smile in the world. Forever in the hearts of many, forever loved by many, you definitely left your mark on this world and in our hearts. Until we meet again in heaven one day, Boomer Sooner!
