Mae Ruth Hurt, daughter of Jake and Bertha (Waggoner) Sutterfield, passed away on May 9, 2020. She was born in Elmore City, OK on March 2, 1929. She married Elgevean “Reno” Hurt on September 16, 1943. Shortly after their marriage Reno was drafted into the service and they relocated to Los Angeles. This left Mae, a shy girl from the mountains of John's Valley, OK to find work and survive one of the largest cities in the world. Mae eventually returned to Oklahoma and made the most of her time until Reno returned following the end of WWII.
Mae and Reno briefly lived in Texas before finally settling in Oklahoma City, OK in 1952. Mae and Reno had 7 kids and she dedicated her life to raising her children and grandchildren. After the passing of her husband in 1987, Mae continued to live in her own home until she was 90 yrs old. Mae's faith was very important to her. She was a faithful servant and member of Southside Assembly of God Church in OKC for over 60 years.
Mae enjoyed cooking for family and friends, reading, sewing and canning goods from the garden. She will be remembered for her quiet, shy, kind, and patient demeanor. She was known to always see the good in others and have a selfless attitude. Mae was a loving wife, a caring mother, a proud grandmother, and a devout follower of Christ and she will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Bertha Sutterfield; husband Elgevean "Reno" Hurt; 7 siblings; one grandson; and one son-in-law . She is survived by 7 children: Larry Hurt (Gayla); Linda Thurman; Sharon McKee; Rebekah Patzkowski (Mark); Mark Hurt (Janetta); Steven Hurt; Rena Guzman (Rick). 14 grandchildren: Misty, Brent, Brett, Ryan, Matthew, Clay, Julia, Chad, Clint, Corey, Cody, Collin, Grant, and Garrett. Mae also leaves behind numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 from 12:00pm-4:00pm at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Service. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at 1:00PM at Antlers City Cemetery in Antlers, OK.
