Lowell Thomas Goforth went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 9th at the age of 85.Lowell was born on February 3, 1931 in Okeene, OK to Otis and Lillian (Bisel) Goforth. He has one younger sibling, his brother Gene. He was raised learning to work hard on the family farm as well as cultivating a love and skill for photography. After graduating from Okeene High School he enrolled at Central State University (UCO). But a short time later he enlisted in the USAF and spent time as a medic in the United States, as well as in the French Morocco. During his time in the Air Force, Lowell won the National Defense Service Medal. After leaving the military he returned to Edmond to finish his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Arts. It was then that he meet his bride to be, Phyllis Henschke. They "went together" for a couple years before getting married on August 17, 1957 in Oklahoma City. Lowell and Phyllis soon after began their own wedding and portrait photography business. But after his father suffered a stroke in 1967, the Goforth family of now four, with daughter Lesa and son Warren, returned to Okeene to farm and ranch. He and Phyllis remained photographers taking family portraits and photographing weddings in the Okeene area. The family soon grew to six with the addition of Ross and Russell. Lowell and Phyllisspent the rest oftheirworking years inOkeene. Lowell loved OU football and collected tools. And when he wasn't in the darkroom developing black-n-whites,he was fixing and repairing on the house, anddid wood and leather working as well. He also loved cars and almost anything mechanical. But most of all believed in the value of hard work. Lowell and Phyllis moved to Surrey Hills just outside of Oklahoma City in 2000 after retiring. However, hating to be idle, he always had a project going.
He is preceded in death by his son Warren Thomas Goforth, his parents Otis and Lillian Goforth, father-in-law and mother-in-law Edwin and Helen Henschke, and his sister-in-law Barbara Ann Wooldridge.
He will be missed and his memory cherished by Phyllis, his wife of 59 years. His daughter Lesa Davis and her husband Dana of Fr. Worth TX with their son Andy and daughter Hilary Redding with her son Briar, Lowell's great grand son. Ross Goforth of Oklahoma City. Russell Goforth and his wife Xandra of Hydro OK with their daughters Claire and Allison and son Reagan. And Warren's wife Leisha Goforth with their sons Grant and Reed. He is also survived by his brother Gene and sister-in-law Juanita Goforth. One niece, Terry Goforth.Nephews Gene Goforth Jr., Michael Goforth, William and wife Lori Wooldridge, and Jeff Wooldridge. As well as neighbors and many friends and other family in Okeene and OKC, including his church family of New Hope United Methodist Church.
