We have lost a true gentleman.. John Robert Dexter was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma, the only child of Harold and Martine Burnett Dexter, on October 25, 1952. He passed away July 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. Bob attended school in Ardmore and graduated in 1970. He then attended the University of Oklahoma, where he was in ROTC and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He graduated in 1974 and returned to Ardmore to work with his father. He married Georgeann Riley on October 18, 1985, and they made their home in Ardmore. In 1986, he went to work for Exchange National Bank, which became BancFirst, and retired in 2018. He and Georgeann welcomed 2 daughters, Mary Martine in 1987, and Ann Marie in 1990. Their family was complete.
Bob was active in the Ardmore community, first on the Board of Memorial Hospital, and later on the Southern Oklahoma Memorial Foundation. He was Chairman of the United Way of Southern Oklahoma, a member of Salvation Army, as well as a member of Rotary, carrying on a family tradition. His grandfather, John Dexter, had been a district governor of Rotary. He served a term as president of Dornick Hills Country Club, where he enjoyed many rounds of golf with numerous friends, and those friendships continue today. His family enjoyed many weekends of OU football in the fall, where he introduced his daughters to the tradition of the game.
Bob and Georgeann were members of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Ardmore, where he served on the Vestry and finance committee. In 2022, they moved to Oklahoma City and became members of All Souls' Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Georgeann, of the home, daughter Mary Johnston and husband Addison, and daughter Ann Moritz and husband Michael, all of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by granddaughters Riley Martine Johnston and Hattie Marie Johnston.
Services will be 11:00 am, Monday, July 22, 2024 at All Souls’ Episcopal Church, 6400 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73116. The family would like to thank ComForcare Senior Services and Cura HPC Hospice Care for their wonderful and loving care in his final weeks.
