John was born February 19, 1949 to Clyde Homer and Maureen Burge in Altus. John was raised in Hollis Oklahoma. He attended Western Oklahoma State University before joining the Army. John was wounded while serving in Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After that, John worked as a Sky Marshal, Customs Patrol Officer, Special Agent, and Senior Special Agent. He was a Program Manager for the Marine Division of the East Coast, from Washington D.C. to the Florida Keys where he participated in the management of the Mariel boat lift. John fell in love and married his wife of 42 years in Miami Florida on September 22nd 1973, and they raised their three children. John was a light hearted man who never met a stranger. He was a man of courage, integrity, and generosity. His faith in Christ was central to his life. He died July 1st in his home surrounded by family. John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Catherine; son Scott and wife Carla; son Jason and wife Megan; daughter Anna and husband Monir. John had 9 grandchildren that he adored: LeeAnna, Kaleb, Melinda, Alex, Marshal, Kaysen, Myles, Elyas and Lukas; brother Billy; sisters Cindy and Melinda; along with many family and friends.
Funeral will be held July 6, 10am at MYChurch in Mustang followed by a graveside service at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
