It’s been extremely difficult to make things “Normal” again. You were able to keep me laughing and pushing through the bad days with my cancer. I’m forever in debt to your loyalty as a friend and keeping me pushing. You also had my back while in Law Enforcement and we worked awesome as a team.

I knew Jerimy as a boy but not the man he grew to be. Im at a loss for words. All I know to say is my heart hurts for all who knew and loved Jerimy. Most especially for my bro. Patrick, Lisa,Daniel, Dallas and Jerimys son. I'm truly sorry for the loss of such an Awesome Young Man.
                         

I had the privilege of getting to know Jeremy during his time at OCS.  My husband got to spend the day with him as a Watch Dog Dad and came home talking about how much he enjoyed their time.  This past fall, he and I worked the entrance of OCS youth football games for a few hours.  It was a pretty cold morning so there wasn't a whole lot to do but sit and chat and try to stay warm.  We talked about sports (of course), his son, and our health struggles as I also have walked through an autoimmune illness over the past few years.  We talked about him being the oldest of 3 brothers even though I could have sworn Deputy Dan was older!  We even talked about the fact that he would serve warrants with Deputy Swartz when he wasn't working at the school and how heartbroken he was losing a friend in the line of duty.

One of the most insightful things we talked about was how he did his job as an SRO.  When asked what he looks for when he's working with the kids, he said he looks for the kids that remind him of himself when he was younger.  He said there are kids who toe the line, kids who push the limits/break the rules and kids who are trying to find their way between the two.  He said he was careful to always be gentle but firm with the kids in the middle so he could guide them back to the right side of things.  He knew if he came down too hard on them, they could choose the wrong path permanently.  His heart for the students was clear!  God truly gave Jeremy a gift and our kids were so blessed by him!

Jeremy was the first face we saw at the beginning of the day and the last we saw at the end.  He leaves a hole in our lives that will be felt for years to come.  We are all better for having known him.  May God be glorified through his life and legacy!

My heart goes out to this family. My name is Dennis Bookout and I was Jeremy’s elementary principal. We renewed our friendship while my grandkids attended O.C.S. They would tell me what a nice person Jeremy was to them. I found he was loved by all the kids. 
I remember visiting with him in elementary school and he was a good kid. I just wanted family to know what a special person he was and I’m sure he has left a lasting memory in many kids. Dennis Bookout

Jeremy was such a shining light for so many at OCS..The year I retired, I had the priviledge of finishing the year with 6 precious boys.. Jeremy came by to check on them and give them high 5's every week..warmed my heart.  I sub at OCS and each time he was there to greet me and visit. Jeremy embodied OCS. He was always there- carlines, sports, HOCO parades, before, during and after school with the biggest servant’s heart. He always stopped by the MS office when I was subbing and I loved those visits. He talked about his son SO much and what he had going with the kids that day. Always made me smile. Cooper was telling me yesterday how funny he was and the different jokes they shared that completely crack up a MS boy!! Deputy McCain had just shown Riley how to use the baton at the soccer pizza party that night and she immediately started using it like a light saber which he thought was so funny! And Bryn told me that when she was in 5th gr, they collected a ton of gift cards for him for his bday. He cried bc he was so thankful and so excited about all the things he was going to do with and for his son. That really touched her. We ALL have those stories! He related to all the kids, HS, MS and elementary and that’s special! Thank you for sharing him with us! We will miss him so much. Continuing to pray for your family.

I’m sure you’ve heard this many times before, but I hope you know how truly loved Deputy McCain was at OCS. He left a huge legacy within our school community and was a great example of what an SRO should embody. He loved, protected, and cared for the kids. We could always count on his smiling face and the funny nicknames at morning drop off. My kids miss him dearly (and we do, too).
