James “Jim” “Salty” Volz went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 28th, 2022. Born July 15th, 1938 to James and Dolores Volz in Rochester, New York. Sadly, Jim’s father was killed by a drunk driver while directing traffic as a Rochester Police Officer when Jim was 4 years old, his brother 3 years old, and sister 11 months old. Jim was raised in Rochester, New York along with his brother and sister by their mother and extended family. Upon graduation from high school, Jim served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp.
After his service he graduated from St. John Fisher College with a business degree and later obtained his law degree from OCU. After college, Jim became a police officer for Berkeley Police Department in California and then was accepted into the F.B.I. Academy. Jim served as a Special Agent for the F.B.I. until his retirement in 1996. During his tenure at the F.B.I. Jim was the firearms instructor and Co-Leader of the SWAT team. Jim’s last case with the F.B.I. was the investigation of the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in OKC. Jim then went to work as an attorney for the Department of Public Safety, served as an Assistant District Attorney and finally as a Special Judge. Jim tragically lost his beloved son Mike when Mike was just 18 years old. Jim also lost his brother Richard who died in a car accident at age 33.
Preceded in death by his father James Volz, his mother Dolores Volz; his brother Richard and son Michael.
Jim is survived by his wife Karen of 37 wonderful years of marriage, son Greg Volz and wife Perri of Landenberg PA; son Chris Volz and wife Bridgette of Branson MO; daughter Cathryn Good and husband Scott of Brevard N.C.; son Jimmy Volz of Abilene TX; daughter Kimberly Walla and husband Jeff of Piedmont, OK; grandchildren Kristin Apken, Annie Apken, Nathan Volz and wife Darian, Andrew Volz, Zach Good, Gabrielle Good, Christopher Volz and wife Trinh, Sierra Brownlee and husband Tyler, Madelyn Volz, Preston Volz, Zoie Volz, Olivia Volz, Gabrielle Volz, Hudson Walla and Finley Walla; Great Grandchildren Paige Starr and Alana, Olly, Gray and Charmy Volz; sister Karen Santoli, 1 niece and 3 nephews. Jim will be buried at Frisco Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Goodbye sweet Husband, Dad, and Salty, we will see you in Heaven.
