James was born at Reese Air Force Base Lubbock, Texas. After leaving Lubbock he lived three years in Naples, Italy and two years in Ogden, Utah before the family settled in Oklahoma City in 1967. James is a graduate of Northeast High School and also studied at the University of Oklahoma and University of Central Oklahoma.
James was a manager for Safeway/Homeland for many years. He managed stores in Oklahoma City, Duncan, Woodward, Muskogee and Amarillo, Texas. He left Homeland to join Love’s Travel Centers where he served as a District Manager and Director of Merchandising. After leaving Love’s, he worked as a store manager for Hobby Lobby.
James is survived by his daughter Megan, son Scott and their mother Shelly all of Yukon and his brother Donald of Oklahoma City. James was preceded in death by his sister Sophia and his parents William and Betty (Horst) Rowlett.
James had many dear friends. He had a special way of connecting with people. One of his friends shared with the family “James is one of the most genuine, honest, loving friends I’ve ever had”.
We will all miss him very much. A celebration of James’ life will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 7th at the Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel.
