Jack Holt Vaughn, 88, was surrounded by his loving family when he went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 15, 2016. Jack was born in Oklahoma City, OK on June 9, 1928 to Joseph and Una Vaughn. He attended Central High School, where he played basketball, was President of Student Council, was voted Most Outstanding Senior Boy, and where he met his “sweetheart,” Sue Swartwood. After graduating in 1946, the two attended the University of Oklahoma and were married in 1948. Jack graduated from OU with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1950. He was proud to serve his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He and Sue then settled in Oklahoma City, where they raised their four children and where he co-founded Elder and Vaughn Oil Properties. The couple later moved to Oak Tree in Edmond, where they were inaugural members and lived out the rest of their years. Jack had many great friends and he enjoyed a full life, playing golf, enjoying games of gin, attending and watching OU athletics, and regularly attending his weekly Bible study. More than anything, “Papo” – as he was known by his grandkids and great grandkids – loved spending time with his family. He and “Mumo” were regulars at sporting events, concerts, and programs, and they never missed a birthday or family celebration. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Sue Vaughn; he is survived by his four children, Terri Hare and husband Pat, Judy Vaughn, Nancy Meadors and husband Randy, and Joe Vaughn and wife Donna; his seven grandchildren, Daniel Hare and wife Adrienne, Kristin Biggs and husband Randy, Hayley Nagy and husband Nick, Toby Vaughn and wife Jessica, Magen Malin and husband Roger, Collin and Cody Meadors; and his 12 great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Griffin, and Dylan Hare; Jack, Graham, and Reid Biggs; Charlie, Claire, and Aubrey Vaughn; Leah Nagy; Jacob and Ryan Malin. Also, his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Johnson and husband Clyde; his brother-in-law, Bud Swartwood and wife Suzanne and many cherished nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held Sunday from 12:00 until 4:00pm at the Memorial Park Funeral Home, 13313 N. Kelley, OKC. The family will be greeting friends from 2:00 until 4:00pm. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 20 at 1:00pm at Crossings Community Church Chapel, 14600 N. Portland Avenue, OKC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, or to the ministry of Cru, 2810 Forrestridge Drive, Denton, TX 76205.
