He was born in Lubbock, Texas on December 3rd, 1936 to parents Jack Lloyd Shilling and Olline Elizabeth Morrow Shilling.
Jack graduated from Sweetwater High School and received his Bachelors of Science in Business from The University of Oklahoma.
He was married to Sydney Shilling on May 30, 1989.
Throughout the years Jack served in the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel from 1959-1980. Then worked for Security National Bank as vice president of Human Resources from 1980-1987. From 1987-1993 Jack worked for Frontier Federal Savings and Loan as the vice president of Human Resources. He retired in 1993.
Jack had many accomplishments throughout his life. He was a member of the OU Football National Championship Team in 1956 and was a part of the longest winning streak in NCAA history – 47 games. He also was given many awards throughout his time in the Army. He received The Joint Service Commendation Medal in 1978, The Bronze Star – For Service in Vietnam from October 1968 to June 1969, The Bronze Star - For Service in Vietnam from June 1969 to October 1969, The Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, and The Crowd Pleaser Award for Headquarters, II Field Force Vietnam.
He was also very active in his community and took part in many organizations. He was a member of the Norman Chamber of Commerce, Sooners Lions Club of Norman, Norman Regional Hospital Auxiliary, OU ROTC Alumni Association, Oklahoma Kit Car Club, and Varsity O Club.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Jack Lloyd Shilling and Olline Elizabeth Morrow Shilling, brother Jimmie Shilling, and sister Clara Jo Shilling.
He was survived by his loving wife of 33 years Sydney Shilling of Norman, OK, children Steve and wife Tamara Shilling of OKC, OK, and Vicky Shilling and Sheri Logan, of Tulsa, OK, Anita Shilling, former wife from 1959-1988 of Norman, OK, grandson Dane and wife Jenna Nolan of Kansas City, MO, stepsons Jeffrey and wife Laura Hamblin of Durant, OK who have 4 children and 4 grandchildren, Eric and wife Martha Hamblin of Lantana, TX, who have 6 children and 5 grandchildren, and Barry Hamblin of Nashville TN who has 4 children, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Jack will be held Monday, April 17, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 13313 North Kelley, Oklahoma City, OK 73131. Following the service, Jack will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or The Sooners Helping Sooners, Inc.
