Mickey spent his early childhood and Christian training in Brooklyn, NY. He accepted Christ as a young child at Mount Sinai Baptist Church where he was baptized in November 1949.
After graduating early from Boys High School in January 1956, Mickey joined the United States Air Force where he received an honorable discharge in 1962 as Airman 1st Class.
While in the Air Force, Mickey married Saundra Jones on December 14, 1958. They moved to Queens, NY and eventually Roosevelt, NY where together they raised two daughters Jacqueline and Lynette.
Mickey joined the New York Police Department in 1968 and retired in 1988. He then became Deputy Inspector General for New York State Department of Corrections, and for many years consulted for HUD housing.
On February 14, 2005, Mickey wed Jeannette Braziel in New York City in which they have enjoyed a great life together.
Mickey was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking as well as traveling and spending time with his grandson Justin.
Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Magaline Hanna and oldest daughter, Jacqueline Alston Penny, MSgt in the United States Air Force.
After a productive and fulfilled life, Mickey was called home to receive his reward on February 22, 2021. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jeannette; daughter Lynette Alston; son-in-law JC Penny; grandson Justin Penny, stepson Elgin, stepdaughter Adrienne, many step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Rose Hill Burial Park, 6001 N.W. Grand Blvd. Oklahoma City, OK 73118.
