Grace Laverne Thompson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed into the arms of her loving Savior on Friday, January 27, 2017. Born in Edmond, OK to Arthur and Ruth Pearce on October 15, 1933, Grace spent her life devoted to those she loved - Jesus, her husband and family, and many friends. After attending Edmond Schools and marrying Fred Thompson, Grace earned her teaching degree from Central State College and spent her career pouring her life into 1st and 3rd graders in the Edmond Public Schools. Remembered fondly for her creative approach in the classroom, she left an indelible impression on countless students over the years. Gracie will be most remembered for her devotion to her family. Married 63 years to Fred, the love of her life, together they raised 3 boys and enjoyed life to the fullest. As her boys grew and married, Grace loved to care for her daughters-in-law and grandchildren, who cherish memories of endless dress up play, tutoring sessions, her precious laugh, but mostly her unconditional love. Upon retirement, Granny spent her time gardening, china painting, maintaining her koi ponds, and travelling with Gramps on countless Model-T trips around the country. Through it all, Gracie was faithful to her Savior, Jesus Christ and was often found quietly reading her Bible. She and Fred were very involved in the First Christian Church of Luther, where she led the choir for years and contributed in many other ways. Grace is preceded in death by parents A.M. and Ruth Pearce; husband Fred Thompson; sisters Ester Gilmore, Pat Jacobs and Dee Ray; brothers Newton Pearce and Henry Pearce. Grace is survived by sons David Thompson and wife Jane of Edmond, Toby Thompson and wife Jennifer of Arcadia, and Joe Thompson of Arcadia; grandchildren Katie Moore and husband Matt, Jeff Thompson and wife Sarah, Robyn Cook and husband Jordan, Jarrett Thompson, and DJ Thompson; great grandchildren Carter and Campbell Moore, Nolan and Pierce Thompson, Daniel Thompson; and sister Sarah Stults of Luther.
A visitation and celebration of life will be held from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, January 31 at Memorial Park Historical Cemetery Chapel, 13313 North Kelly Avenue, Oklahoma City. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, February 1 at 1:00 PM at the First Christian Church of Edmond.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Villagio Senior Living Center for the loving care they gave Grace in her final months.
