Frances Mae Rose

Frances Merriman was born on July 17, 1941 in Porum, Oklahoma to parents John and Lerah Merriman. She was the third of eleven children. She attended school at the Oklahoma School for the Blind in Muskogee, Oklahoma where she met her eventual husband, Sidney Rose. They were wed on September 10, 1960 and briefly lived in Wichita, Kansas before permanently relocating to Oklahoma City. After the birth of their only child, Frances was a stay-at-home mom for many years. When her son was older, she began a career at the Oklahoma League for the Blind where she was a production supervisor in charge of a ladder making shop. She worked in that position until her retirement.

Gardening and reading (audio and braille books) were Frances’ favorite hobbies. The only exception to those favorites, of course, was caring for her family. She was the most wonderful mother, grandmother, wife and sister who was loved by all. Her quick wit was always on full display. She was equally adept at instructing her grown son on the proper use of a hammer as she was at jumping in a leaf pile with her granddaughter. The Friday nights the Roses spent at El Chico with Pat, LeRoy and Becky were the stuff of legends.

Frances is survived by her son John, daughter-in-law Robin and granddaughter Riley all of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by her siblings Mamie, Jim, Marion, Jackie, Betty, and Ricky as well as too many nieces and nephews to count (but not too many for her to love).

She was preceded in death by her husband Sidney, father John, mother Lerah and siblings John, Tommy, Dorothy and Ruby.

A visitation for Frances will be held Friday, June 17, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with family greeting friends from 5:00-6:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162. A funeral service will occur Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
