Frances Marie Koonce Marr Boyd decided to move from this life to the next on October 14, 2018, one week short of her 94th birthday. Frances was born to Bertram and Lillian Koonce on October 20, 1924 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and was the third of five sisters. Frances graduated from Rogers High School, Tulsa, OK in 1942 and attended Oklahoma A & M, where she completed a BS in Psychology. She married Harold (Bud) Marr in March 1945 and together they had four cherished children, Carolyn, Cathleen, Gerald and Janice. They divorced in 1965 but remained friends. Frances remarried in 1972 to Bill D. Boyd.
Frances dedicated her life to raising her family and serving others, including her work as a kindergarten teacher and in community service for the State of Oklahoma Employment Services. When she retired in 1987 Frances enjoyed traveling the country in her RV, visiting friends and family, before settling in Oklahoma City in 1991. She spent many of her retirement years working off and on in different capacities, but always in service to others. Frances shared her deep and abiding faith in God through active membership in many congregations. She was christened in the First Lutheran Church of Tulsa, founded by her maternal grandfather, attended the First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa, was a founding member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, attended the First Presbyterian Church of Claremore, and enjoyed many church homes through her traveling and in Oklahoma City. She was active in the congregation, choir and musical ministry of each of these. Her clear, sweet soprano voice could be heard singing praises on Sunday mornings. Her voice, and every aspect of her radiant soul, were an inspiration and blessing to all who knew her.
Frances is preceded in death by her sisters, Flora Simmons of Tulsa, OK and Helen Shimberg, of Princeton, NJ. She is survived by her sisters, Carol Parr of Saginaw, MI and Majorie Platt of Tulsa, OK, her four children, Carolyn Prigmore of Oklahoma City, OK, Cathy and husband Guy Goodine of Guthrie, OK, Jerry Marr of Corvalis, OR and Janice Marr of Tulsa, OK. In addition, she leaves behind 14 grandchildren and spouses, as well as a multitude of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members. Her love lives on in each of us and she will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held November 3, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the Southern Hills United Methodist Church.
