Irene was born on November 10, 1940 in Sulphur, OK to WL Vernon and Lois Hetzel Vernon. She was their oldest child and was joined by brothers William Robert Vernon in 1942 and Donald G. Vernon in 1945. The family moved to Yukon, OK in the mid-1950s. A bookworm from a young age, Irene was thrilled to learn that her new home was within walking distance of the local library. She spent countless hours there reading fantasy epics, science fiction novels, adventure stories, and other books deemed unsuitable for young ladies. Irene enjoyed her studies and graduated from Yukon High School in May of 1958.
Irene was a woman of many talents and passions. She was an avid seamstress, spending countless hours at her sewing machine, crafting garments, quilts, and gifts with love and care. Her skilled hands wove love into every stitch. In addition to her love for sewing, Irene was an accomplished tatter, delicately crafting intricate lace designs that showcased her patience and attention to detail. Her handiwork adorns many homes and are treasured heirlooms by all who have received her craft.
Like her father, Irene was a lifelong admirer of nature. She traveled around the country with her husband Louis A. Morgan, visiting countless national parks and taking in as many beautiful sights as possible. Irene loved to go camping with her family, and she could identify a huge number of rocks, fossils, arrowheads, and plants. One of Irene’s favorite rock-related jokes was to say that a rock was a “leave-a-rite,” as in “you leave it right there.”
A devoted wife and mother, Irene worked tirelessly alongside her late husband Louis A. Morgan in the family business, City Carbonic, LLC, where her contributions were invaluable. Irene’s dedication, hard work, and unwavering support were instrumental in the success of the business.
Above all else, Irene cherished time spent with her family. Whether it was gathered around the dinner table, sharing stories and laughter, or gathered at the campsite, Irene treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. Her love knew no bounds; she never knew a stranger and could always fit another place around the table.
In her passing, Irene leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength that will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her family is deeply grateful to have known and experienced Irene’s humor, thoughtfulness, knowledge, and talents. Though she may no longer be with us in body, Irene’s spirit will remain forever in our memories, guiding us and comforting us in times of sorrow.
Irene is survived by her two daughters, Tammy Eskew and husband John Ray, Amy Bruecks and husband Don Bruecks; and grandchildren, Hayley Goodger and husband Ryan Goodger, Jacob Bruecks, and Clara Bruecks. She will be reunited in heaven with her husband Louis A. Morgan, her son Phillip Eskew, and other cherished family members.
A celebration of Irene’s life will be held on February 24, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. Graveside services will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her late husband Louis.
