Elizabeth Lydia Horkey Hernandez passed away on September 23, 2021. She was born December 29, 1921 in Medina, Ohio to Stephen and Lydia (Meszlenyi) Horkey who were Hungarian immigrants.
After high school graduation, Betty worked in the courtroom as a stenographer that prepared her for the legal secretary position where she worked until she was 38 years old.
A couple of years before that, she met Robert Hernandez through mutual acquaintances and they began dating. It wasn’t long before they were married on February 28, 1960. Betty and Robert had two children they were so proud of: Elizabeth and Robert. She was a committed wife and mother. She was a devout Catholic and a Godly woman. Betty was a very talented oil painter, painting landscapes and portraits.
Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert Hernandez; daughter Elizabeth R. Snowden and husband Stanley Keith Snowden of Edmond, OK; son Robert Francis Hernandez of Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico; grandchildren Rachel Snowden and Aaron Snowden.
A memorial mass will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 28 at St. Ann’s Chapel with a reception following in the chapel lobby.
