Dortha Faye Simpson Wilbanks Geren was born on June 2, 1935 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to her parents William Riley Simpson and Ruby Lee Johnson. Her father pastored several Baptist churches and her parents instilled in her and her brother, Willie Lee Simpson, a spiritual foundation at an early age which she kept throughout her life. She was outspoken about her beliefs and reached many lives.
She married Jack Wilbanks, the love of her life, on September 23, 1956 after graduating from Holdenville High School. During their 43 years of marriage, Dortha worked at OG&E where she was a customer service representative. Jack was a successful prudential agent and Dortha spent many years supporting him by entertaining clients and mentoring the wives of other agents.
After Jack’s passing in 1999, she married Gene Geren on March 1, 2003 and was able to spend her retirement years enjoying the community they developed at Crossings Church and their many travels until he passed away on December 14, 2020.
Although Dortha never had children, she was a “one of a kind” aunt to her nieces and nephews. There was never a dull moment with Aunt Dortha. She was vivacious, full of energy, and a whole lot of fun!
Dortha passed comfortably on June 1, 2024 with her nieces and nephews at her side. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Gideons International or the National Heart Foundation.
A special thanks from her family to Legacy Assisted Living and Interim Health Care.
