On Thursday, September 1, 2022, Donald Harold Gamble, loving husband of Bonnie Janet Gamble, for 61 years, father of two daughters, Robin Lynn Killham and Rhonda Lynette Aldridge passed away to his heavenly home at the age of 83. Donald H. Gamble was born on July 4, 1939 in St. Charles, Iowa to Gladys H. Gamble and Cleo A. Gamble. Donald H. Gamble was the brother to five brothers, Robert Gamble, Wilber Gamble, John Gamble, Jim Gamble, and Raymond Gamble along with seven sisters Helen, Edyth, Delores, Marge, Jean, Dorothy, and Patty. Donald H. Gamble also had three half-brothers, Rick Gamble, Greg Gamble, and Scott Gamble. He had two half-sisters Shelia and Cindy all born from his father Cleo A. Gamble and Florene Gamble. Donald H. Gamble was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and great grandfather as well as a great man of faith with many friends and people he met along his life journey.
Donald H. Gamble loved the Lord and his family always wanting to spend quality time and making memories with his wife and sweetheart “Janni.” He also made time for all of his family including his two daughters and their families which include Robin’s husband Scott Killham, Rhonda’s husband Grant Aldridge, all of his grandchildren including AJ Killham, Bonnie Standard, Brenda Johnson, Brittany Standard, and Micayla Killham. Don Gamble’s great-grandchildren include Crosby, Lincoln, Ryder, Connor, Charlie, Montae, Cooper, and Grace Anne. Donald H. Gamble was also a loving and caring Man of God to all of his family and friends leaving behind his lovely wife Bonnie Janet Gamble, two daughters, Rhonda and Robin and families as well as a large loving family with many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Donald H. Gamble worked hard all of his life. He worked hard growing up on the family farm in Saint Charles, Iowa getting up early every morning to help his mother build a fire on those cold, Iowa mornings. Don moved to West Des Moines after graduating high school at St. Charles High School. Don met Jan December 31, 1959 and they were married December 1, 1961 at the First Christian Church of West Des Moines, IA. He worked at Dahl’s Supermarket working as a sacker, clerk, stocker then to General Store Manager working at Dahl’s for over 25 years. Donald H. Gamble then worked in construction after moving to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1980. He then worked as a custodian and supervisor 30 years and being a caretaker of the Lord’s house at Metropolitan Baptist Church. Don contributed to Metropolitan Baptist Church more than just keeping the church clean and ready for service and activities. Don would make sure the temperature was just right, the coffee made, and even watered the plants. Donald H. Gamble loved the Lord and loved helping others.
Donald H. Gamble contributed many ways to help people and donate his time and money to many organizations and charities including St. Jude’s, The Boy’s Club, National Wildlife Conservation and many others. Donald H. Gamble was also a faithful servant to the Lord and his church including Metropolitan Baptist Church (now named Metropolitan Bible Church) located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and the First Christian Church in West Des Moines, Iowa. Donald H. Gamble served as a Deacon at Metropolitan Baptist Church for a year. He served as President and Vice president as well as other offices as an active member of Silver Spur Square Dance Club over twenty years, and Donald H. Gamble was also a member to many other organizations that served our country and community nationwide. Don was always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. Donald H. Gamble was also a prayer warrior and prayed daily for his family, friends and country.
Donald H. Gamble loved serving God, and spending time with his family and certainly loved having his beautiful, loving wife Jan by his side from the day he laid eyes on her to the day he left this world to his heavenly home with the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior and God our Father in Heaven. Donald H. Gamble will certainly be missed by everyone, and he leaves his everlasting legacy of being a faithful servant to the Lord knowing Don’s life on Earth was a job well done.
A visitation will be Sunday, September 4, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A funeral service will follow in the chapel Sunday, September 4, 2022 at 3:00 PM with interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
