David Marcus Pitts, 72, passed away on June 4, 2017. David was born on March 16, 1945 in Geneva, NE to Harley Frank and Carol Mae (Well) Pitts. He graduated from Midwest City High School in 1964. David soon joined the US Army and was mostly stationed in Germany as a helicopter mechanic. After three years in the Army, in 1967 he got employment at Tinker Air Force Base. He began 36 years of civil service as an aircraft mechanic and finished in Aircraft Production Management on several different types of aircraft. Over the years beside a love of snow skiing, David became an avid aviation enthusiast. He became an active member of Sooner Parachute Association. He got into skydiving and began flying the jump plane for others while logging over 2,000 individual jumps himself. David was a member of EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), AOPA (Airplane Owners & Pilots Association) and the Cessna Pilots Association. He was a long time member of the USPA (United States Parachute Association). He also was an FAA Certified Master Parachute Rigger, FAA Certified Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic, FAA Certified Airline Transport Pilot, FAA Certified Flight Instructor, Single and Multi-Engine, Instrument Airplanes. For the last 25 years, David has enjoyed trips to Oshkosh, WI with friends, for the annual EAA Air Venture Air Show.
David was proceeded in death by his parents; and brother, Stephen Pitts. Survivors include his sister, Ruth Harness and husband Les; brother, Peter Pitts; nieces and nephews, Michael Lee, Derek Pitts, Bryce Pitts, and Courtney Pitts; and many friends who will miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in David's memory to the American Cancer Association.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel with inurnment at Arlington Memory Gardens at a later date.
