David Armstead Flesher, M.D.

David Armstead Flesher, M.D. was born in 1936 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. David passed away at his home surrounded by family Sunday, April 25, 2021. He attended public schools in Edmond, Oklahoma, proudly earned his Eagle Scout, and graduated from Edmond High School in 1954. He attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He met the love of his life, Dolly Lamb, while attending OU, and they were married in 1956. He graduated from Central State University in 1958, and then attended the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, where he graduated with honors in 1962. Following medical school, he completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Oklahoma under the mentorship of Dr. Don H. O’Donoghue.

Dr. Flesher entered the U.S. Army in 1967 and served as the chief of orthopedic surgery at Martin Army Hospital in Fort Benning, Georgia. He returned to Oklahoma City in 1970 and entered into private practice with the founding members of Orthopedic Associates. Dr. Flesher was very active in the medical staff at Baptist Medical Center and served as chief of staff as well as chief of orthopedic surgery. He practiced orthopedic surgery for 40 years with Orthopedic Associates, and was loved and respected by patients and colleagues. Dr. Flesher served as the team physician for the University of Oklahoma for 10 years. He loved being on the sidelines and traveling with the team to football games. He developed lifelong and meaningful relationships with the players and coaches and OU medical staff.

David was a long time member of All Souls’ Episcopal Church, where he was a lay reader and served on the vestry. He had a great group of friends whom he enjoyed playing golf with twice a week. David was a consummate outdoorsman, hunter, field trialer and fisherman. He and his prized Brittany spaniel, Tuffy, won many field trials. Dave was an expert fisherman and loved fly fishing in Colorado and Montana, and salmon fishing in Alaska. He never missed a quail or pheasant season. David and Dolly loved traveling and shared monumental trips to Africa, Israel and many cruises. Their home away from home was the D and D Chalet in Crested Butte, Colorado. They had many wonderful years together with family and friends in Crested Butte, hiking, fishing, skiing and just sitting on the porch gazing at the majestic mountains.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Cherry and Thomas H. Flesher, MD; sister, Margaret Cherry; and, brother, Thomas H. Flesher, Jr..

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dolly C. Flesher; children, Carolyn Flesher MacDonald and husband, Norm of South Carolina; David J. Flesher, MD and wife Lisa, of Oklahoma City; and, Melissa Flesher Turner and husband, Tim of Oklahoma City; sister, Mrs. Joe B. Allen of Dallas, Texas. Poppop has six grandchildren, whom he loved and was so proud of: John MacDonald, Kevin MacDonald, Rachel Flesher, Ryan Flesher, Elizabeth Turner, and David Turner.

A Memorial Service will be held at All Souls’ Episcopal Church 11:00 Saturday May 1, 2021. Services will be lived streamed via alllsoulsokc.com/live and www.facebook.com/allsoulsokc.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Souls Episcopal Church.
