Darlene von Stein, born April 6, 1927, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2010. Her parents were Florence and Sydney Wharton and she grew up in an extended family in Oklahoma. Darlene attended Gatewood School and Classen High School. Darlene and Charles C. von Stein, Jr., were married in August of 1946 in the First Presbyterian Church following Charles’ return from service as an Army Officer in a combat unit in the European Theatre. They had years of happy partnership together living in Dallas, Mexico City, and New York until Charles’ sudden death there on the golf course of a country club in 1987. Darlene then moved to Oklahoma City where she was a longtime dedicated Docent at the Cowboy Museum. She is survived only by her brother-in-law, Gene von Stein, of Oklahoma City, and her sister, Mary Lou Critcher, of San Fransisco, CA. A graveside service for friends will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2010 at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City, OK.
