Corene Klutts

Corene Maxine Klutts, Nana, was born November 28, 1927 in Stratford, OK, to Clark and Etta Eeds. She died November 27, 2022 hours short of her 95th birthday. Those years were filled with life, love, God, family and friends.

Nana married her high school sweetheart Philip Criss Klutts on January 30, 1946 when he returned to Stratford from serving in the U.S. Navy during World War 2. They moved to south Oklahoma City, purchasing their first house with a $100 down payment borrowed from Clark. She and Phil built their dream house at 1636 SW 89th, moving into it in 1958. In October 1982, Nana and Phil moved to 809 Briarcliff Dr in Moore, where she lived until her death. When clearing out the attic, we discovered Nana had saved every paper Larry and Denise had brought home from school; yes, we do mean every paper. Finding one without a name, Larry or Denise would hold it up and ask Nana whose it was. From across a 2-car garage, Nana would look up and answer with complete confidence. Amazed, they started holding up papers with names. She got it right every time. They held up papers while covering up the name. She would get it right. “How can you possibly remember every paper we brought home?”, they asked. “I don’t”, Nana replied. “If there is no red marks, it is Larry’s. If there are red marks, it is Denise’s because she didn’t care.” Nana knew her children!

In her career, Nana worked in offices. Before children, she worked in Building 3001 at Tinker Air Force Base. She became the elementary school secretary when Denise started school, serving at Fairview, Central and Sky Ranch elementary schools. Denise complained that she would have been able to get some things by the principle, but couldn’t get anything past Nana.

Then she worked in the office at Montgomery Ward’s at Crossroads Mall. She said she worked for two reasons: to qualify for Social Security in her own right and to spend whatever she wanted on her grandchildren.

Nana is survived by her son Larry and wife Angie Klutts of Edmond, OK; daughter Denise and husband Wayne Gunsallis of Moore, OK; grandchildren Katie Hayden and husband Jeff of Edmond, OK, Robert Klutts and wife Natasha of Gardner, KS, Philip Klutts and wife Tara of Edmond, OK, Leatha O’Steen and husband Chris of Newcastle, OK, Michael Gunsallis of Moore, OK; eight great grandchildren, Lane, Rylie, Kaden, Hailie, Levi, Nate, Deacon, and Samantha; friends and family.
