Born in Oklahoma City on January 4th, 1935, to Dr. Charles R. Rountree and Kitty (Shanklin) Rountree, he attended Nichols Hills Elementary School and Casady where he was a member of the class of 1953, the first class to attend each grade - 6 through 12 - after the founding of the school in 1947. Charlie had a long career in the life insurance industry where he was an underwriter for Mass Mutual, Connecticut Mutual, Transamerica and Prudential. He was passionate about Civil War history and WWII history. He enjoyed jazz, especially big band music, and enthusiastically followed sports of all kinds to include his beloved Sooners and Thunder. Charlie is survived by his son Charles, his daughter Laura Bennison and her husband Bill, his ex-wife Faith, his brother Joe and his wife Sue, and nephews Chris and Jeff, along with their respective families. His children would like to especially thank Charlie’s Avondale Drive neighbors Dr. John Ainsworth and Gail Wells for their loyal friendship and acts of kindness over the years.
