Charles Robert Devol, age 84, passed peacefully into the next life on November 26, 2015 while surrounded by loving family. Charles was born the eldest child to Ernest George and Flossie Mae Devol in Oroville, CA on February 14th, 1931. All who met Charles knew him as a kind, gentle soul and as the Light of Christ. Charles was first and foremost a loving husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He loved and served his country in the US Army. Charles was a selfless person, a single father to five children 10 and under in the early ‘60’s. All while working full time as he attended college at night fulfilling his dream of becoming a geophysicist through Cal State, Bakersfield. He had a love affair with rocks, minerals and the Earth up to the day he passed. Charles was president of the Kern County Chapter of Toastmasters. He served many years as Boy Scout leader, faithful church servant, LDS temple worker and follower of Jesus Christ. His hobbies included gardening and anything involving the outdoors. Charles loved pointillism and spent countless hours producing pictures for many family members and friends. Charles’ career started at Tidewater Oil Company, lettering and printing labels for maps. His next career step was becoming an engineer then a geophysicist for Oxidental Petroleum. In 1975 Charles moved his family to Oklahoma for better career opportunities. While in church his daughter Linda introduced him to his eternal companion Evelyn. They were married October 6, 1976. Charles and Evelyn were sealed in the Dallas, TX Temple on September 12, 1987 for time and all eternity. The move to Oklahoma did lead to numerous career opportunities, one with Texas International Petroleum Company where he climbed the corporate ladder to become Vice President of Geophysics. Later, he transitioned to consulting and finally ending at Forward Oil and Gas where he devoted the last 30 years. Charles is survived by his two brothers, Art and his wife Delores Devol, Bill and his wife Hazel Devol and sister Rosemarie Higgins; his eternal children, son Roy and his wife Joyce Devol; daughter Linda and her husband Clifton Sewell; daughter Judy and her husband Steve Adams; Kevin and his wife Valerie Devol; son James and his wife Cynthia Utterback; daughter Deborah and her husband Thomas Hanselman; three nieces and three nephews; 24 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Charles was preceded in death by his eternal companion Evelyn Mae Devol and son David Devol.
