Cecil Delbert Hendrix, Sr., 88, of Spencer, OK, beloved husband, to Erika passed from this Earth to Heaven on July 12, 2017. He was born on February 2, 1929 in El Dorado Springs, MO to Johnie and Thelma (Copeland) Hendrix.
He grew up in Tahlequah, OK and attended school in Briggs, OK. Delbert served with distinction in the United States Army, where he met the love of his life, Erika. After returning to Tahlequah from Austria, on March 2nd 1950, Delbert married Erika via telephone – he was in Tahlequah and she was in Germany. Shortly after a telephone wedding he enlisted in the United States Air Force and often traveled overseas. During his 21 years in the Air Force he always had a story to tell about whom he met and what Generals and Presidents he had the pleasure of driving. Delbert enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time at the family farm in Tahlequah. He also enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren.
Delbert was preceded in death by his mother, father, three brothers, and one sister; as well as his daughter, Linda Caldwell; his son-in-law, LeRoy Bell, his grandson, Levi Morrison; and his great-grandson, Aaron Hendrix. He is survived by wife, Erika; children, Delbert Hendrix, Mary Bell, Carol Smith, and husband, Karl, Gail Abbott, and John Hendrix; 15 grandchildren, Joel Hendrix, Corey Neller, Ben Smith, Eric Morrison, Brian Smith, Melisha Kenedy, Jesse Abbott, Jennifer Hendrix, Leigh Ann Cook, Ashley Rezaei, Katie Flynt, Chris Bell, Shara Lively, Lisa Bell, and Paige Rice-Hendrix; sister, Neoma Mackey; six brothers, Donald, Ronald, Jerry, Raymond, Melvin, and Dewey Hendrix; and too many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews to count; and many more! Words cannot express how much he will be missed.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will be held in Arlington Memory Gardens. Condolences may be offered at www.eisenhourfuneralhome.com
