Catherine G. Marks

Catherine Marks “KaiKai” born in Oklahoma City, OK on June 7, 1928 left her physical body early in the morning on February 23, 2012 and entered her heavenly state. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents Sophia and George Merkouris “Marks”; her sister Connie G Demopolos; her sister Liberty G Marks; her brother Johnny G Marks; niece Tonia Wright and her husband Jerry Wright. Survivors include her sister in law Dana Marks; nephew Joey Marks; nephew Jim Demopolos and his wife Kim; great nephew James Andre Demopolos, his wife Emily and their children Sophia, Rebekah and James; great nephew Christopher Wright, his wife Amy and their children Harrison and Teddy.

Catherine’s family moved to the United States as Greek immigrants and eventually made their home in Oklahoma City. Catherine attended school at Emerson Elementary, Roosevelt Middle School and then graduated from Central High School in 1946. She attended the University of Oklahoma and then entered the workforce. Catherine’s professional career was spent mostly in the banking industry as well as the oil and gas industry.

Catherine will best be remembered as a devoted daughter, sister and aunt. She lived at home with her mother until her mother passed. She then moved across the street from her older sister Liberty where the two of them would spend the rest of their lives together living as sisters often do. Bickering, loving, and shopping. Catherine loved her family very much and never fully recovered from the loss of her baby brother Johnny and her niece Tonia. She spent the last year of her life making new friends at the Waterford Mansion Assisted Living Center. She truly adored her great nephews Harrison and Teddy. As long as she was able to drive and get around seeing those boys is what kept her going. They could do no wrong in her eyes.

Catherine will be missed by many but it is a blessing that she will find the comfort and attention that she truly needed from the family that preceded her in death. I am positive that she and her two sister’s along with her niece Tonia are somewhere in heaven driving a Lincoln or Cadillac on their way to get their hair done and then off to lunch. The “Greek Mafia” as they were called is finally reunited.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church with interment in Fairlawn Cemetery.
