Calvin was born on February 5, 1927 in Cloud Chief, OK to Otto and Marianna (Penner) Flaming. He was raised in Cloud Chief and graduated Corn High School. On a trip to the skating rink Calvin met the love of his life, Leota June King. Shortly after, Calvin enlisted in the US ARMY at the end of WWII and he spent much of his time deployed overseas.
Upon his return to Oklahoma, Calvin and Leota were married on April 3rd of 1947. They made their home in the OKC metro area and Calvin worked two jobs to ensure his family was taken care of. He worked part-time in the produce department of the local Humpty Dumpty store. Calvin worked full-time in civil service at Tinker Air Force Base. He began his career in the wood mill and retired nearly 35 years later as a packaging specialist.
Calvin was a kind and independent gentleman who enjoyed gardening, watching his beloved Sooner football team, as well as the Oklahoma City Thunder. He and Leota loved to travel and spent 16 winters in S. Texas with their friends in the Okie Gadabouts RV Travel Club. Calvin’s faith played an important part in his life and he attended Meadowood Baptist in Midwest City, as well as Hilltop Baptist Church in SE OKC where he served as an usher and member of the choir. He spent nearly 20 years as a member of First Moore Baptist Church.
Calvin was a loving husband, a caring father, a proud grandfather, and a trusted friend who will certainly be missed by all those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents: Otto and Marianna Flaming; a brother Archie Flaming, a daughter-in-law Becky Flaming; a son-in-law Newt Tyner.
