Bill was born in Maud, Oklahoma to Mary Lucille (Miller) and Alton Etherd Parker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his grandson, Jared Sales, his sister, Georgia Stevens and by his parents.
Bill attended numerous Oklahoma public schools prior to graduating in 1946 from McAlester High School. Bill served in the U S Naval Reserve Unit for the Eighth Naval District from 1947 to 1952. He married Mary in 1948 and moved to Oklahoma City in 1956 so he could finish his college degree. He graduated from Central State University with a BS Degree in Education in 1958 starting his education career teaching in Oklahoma City. Bill graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Masters Degree in Elementary Education Administration in 1961. He served as principal at numerous schools throughout his career with the Oklahoma City Public Schools. Bill retired in 1990 and for the next ten years enjoyed an Adjunct position at Central State University assisting Entry Year Teachers.
Bill is survived by his daughter Stephanie, and husband, Chuck Sales of Oklahoma City; his son Tom Parker, and wife, Tina, of Argyle, Texas; grandchildren, Jason Sales, Melissa and husband Ryan Fitzhugh, Justin Sales, Heather and husband Blake Holman, Jennifer Parker, Amy and husband Philip Meaker; great-grandsons, Griffin Fitzhugh, Jasper Fitzhugh, Parker Holman, Reed Fitzhugh, Knox Holman, Memphis Meaker, Shepherd Meaker, and Sullivan Meaker; sister, Genevieve Brasfield, brother Bob Parker and wife Donna, brother-in-law Joe Stevens; as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and extended family.
Bill began life from humble and meager beginnings. He credited attending Southwestern A/G College in Waxahachie, TX in the early 50’s with influencing his life. Bill was very active in service for the Lord. He served as deacon and participated in numerous mission projects. Bill and Mary enjoyed University of Oklahoma sports and traveling to all 50 states and many foreign countries with his sisters and daughter.
He will be missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held 4-7 pm Friday, February 16th at the funeral home with a service to celebrate his life at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 13313 N Kelley Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73131; reception to follow service; burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
